The Threat Angela Rigas Poses to Caledonia Community Schools

How would you feel if your tax dollars were being spent on frivolous lawsuits against your district’s schools and teachers?

That is what is happening to our neighbors.

Stephanie Boone (supported by State Representative Angela Rigas and Moms for Liberty) has filed a lawsuit against Lowell Area Schools and some specific teachers, alleging that her 1st Amendment Rights have been violated and that under Title IX, she is suing the school for sexual harassment, because the school has allowed books with sexually explicit content to be in the building thus creating a sexually hostile environment. This lawsuit, if Boone were to win, would be to the tune of $200,000 of taxpayer money into her pocket. Not to mention she’s already wasted an immense amount of taxpayer dollars in legal fees, and not to mention the criminal charges she filed against LAS last year.

Why am I sharing this? Because our district cannot possibly withstand the financial burden of frivolous lawsuits and bullying by outside interests. Angela Rigas backed and supported Stephanie Boone throughout her tirades against our neighbors. Rigas managed to get three of her recruits onto our Caledonia Board of Education in 2022 and is now seeking to seal the deal (control a majority of the board) by pushing in two more of her soldiers on us.

This past board meeting, Velting and Kohn were both present to applaud Rigas’s theatrical reading of a free-choice book that her child, a CHS student, chose to read. She’s setting the stage for a legal battle the same way Stephanie did in Lowell.

This is a huge problem for our neighbors and as a community we have the ability to keep it from happening to us.

Please really consider who we are allowing into our districts BoE. Moms for Liberty extremists do not have a place on our school boards. They have an agenda to defund our public schools and privatize education in Michigan. If you love your Caledonia Public Schools, say no to Rigas pushing her cronies on us.
